Counseling Education

While employed in the community mental health field, Kelly earned the academic degree of Master of Arts in the discipline of Integral Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.

What is the view of ‘Integral Counseling Psychology?’

Integral counseling views that consciousness is multidimensional; that human beings have valid urges toward individual, social, and transcendental awareness and functioning; and that people may be assisted in accessing and utilizing their own inner wisdom for greater emotional and psychological integration. Drawing from the psychological and spiritual traditions of East and West, cross-cultural and social science research, and humanistic and transpersonal psychologies, blending experiential and theoretical approaches in the development of strong psychotherapeutic skills for living.

Kelly supplemented his academic degree with subsequent postgraduate training:

  • Comprehensive supervised psychodynamic psychotherapy training at The Psychotherapy Institute in Berkeley
  • Control-mastery theory education and case consultation at San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group
  • Continuing education in cognitive-behavioral therapy and EMDR through John F. Kennedy University
